What is the Wall of Return? The Wall of Return is a commemorative initiative designed to honor the legacy of our enslaved and freed ancestors, as well as others, through the engraving of their names on historically themed Walls. Serving as a symbolic return to the ancestral homeland, the Wall of Return aims to foster a deeper connection to heritage and pay tribute to the sacrifices of those who came before us. Beyond this, the Wall will also feature the names of contemporary contributors and sponsors, and it will acknowledge the invaluable support of unsung heroes from diverse ethnic backgrounds who played pivotal roles in the Underground Railroad and the Anti-Slavery movement. Th Wall of Return promotes a sense of unity and shared purpose, emphasizing the collective efforts of individuals and organizations that have fought—and continue to fight—against injustice and oppression. By supporting this project, African Americans can help ensure that these inspiring stories of courage and solidarity are preserved for future generations. This global tourism attraction will be established in Liberia, West Africa, and it has received official endorsement from the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Office of the Disapora Affairs, Republic of Liberia. Why was Liberia picked for this project? The initial Wall of Return will be located in The Republic of Liberia. Liberia is the only Black state in Africa never subjected to colonial rule, and it is Africa’s oldest republic. Liberia was established on land acquired by the American Colonization Society (ACS), for people who formerly had been enslaved in America. ACS founded a colony at Cape Mesurado in 1821. In 1824 the territory was named Liberia, and its main settlement was named Monrovia, which is the present-day capital. Liberian independence was proclaimed in 1847, and its boundaries were expanded. Several settlement ships left America for Liberia between 1821 and as late as 1878. Settlers, later known as Americo-Liberians came from the American states of Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, District of Columbia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Louisiana and Ohio. In total, there will be up to 40 planned Walls. Some will be located in other Mubita LLC and HDC Homecoming countries, each with a different theme related to African American history. The Walls in Liberia will be located in a newly created area called "Freedom Park." The Walls will be an international tourism attraction, bringing economic growth opportunities to all of Liberia. How many names will be engraved on each wall and when will the first Wall be erected? There will be 25,000 names on each of the Walls. The first Wall is anticipated to be erected in mid to late 2026. The timing will depend upon meeting the name listing goal. What do I gain from from supporting the Wall of Return? Supporting the Wall of Return represents an opportunity to foster cross-cultural dialogues and strengthen the bonds between African Americans and the broader African diaspora. This initiative is not merely a physical structure but a profound symbol of shared heritage and unyielding perseverance. It offers a space for education, reflection, and celebration, uniting African Diaspora communities around the world in their shared history of overcoming adversity. Your name listing(s) will be seen by tourists from all around the world, including your own family members, friends and colleagues who visit Liberia in future years. Moreover, the Wall stands as a testament to the power of collective memory and the importance of honoring the stories that shaped our present. It reminds us that the journey toward justice and equality is ongoing and that every voice and every act of solidarity contributes to the greater narrative of human dignity and freedom.By investing in this monumental project, individuals will not only preserve the legacies of the past but also pave the way for a future defined by unity, understanding, and mutual respect across continents.
